The EEG program welcomes applications from Howard University students interested in pursuing research and graduate study in ecological or evolutionary genomics. For detailed application instructions and requirements, please see the sections below.

  • EEG is open to Howard University students interested in pursuing research and graduate study in ecological or evolutionary genomics.

    All applicants to the EEG program must….

    • be Howard University sophomores (3.5 GPA minimum) or juniors (3.0 GPA minimum)

  • How to Apply
  • Applications consist of

    • a web form completed by the applicant
    • college transcripts — unofficial ones are OK
    • the statements described below
    • a letter of recommendation from a Howard University faculty member in the sciences


    Application statements

    Please single space and use a 12pt font. Length: no more than one page each.

    1. Please describe your academic and career goals and how the EEG program will help you achieve those goals. Please save this as a .pdf with the filename LastnameFirstname_academic.pdf.

    2. Please describe how your life experiences, including any challenges that you faced, have shaped these goals and your path towards them. If you have conducted research in the past, please describe the question that you investigated and your contributions to answering this question. Please save this as a .pdf with the filename LastnameFirstname_history.pdf.

    Please go to the application web form to enter your information and upload your statements,  transcripts, and the name and email address of your reference. 

    Please ask your reference to upload your letter of recommendation. You are responsible for contacting your reference, providing the upload link, and asking them to upload their recommendation by the application deadline. 

  • Timeline and Review of Applications
  • Target date: November 14, 2025. Applicants will be notified of their status in December.

    Applicants will be selected based on the strength of their record and fit of research interests to appropriate faculty. Finalists may be interviewed by videoconference.
